It is normal to experience some soreness or discomfort for the first few days after getting your braces placed or after a wire is adjusted. This is a sign that your teeth are beginning to move. By following a few simple steps, you can ensure a smooth and comfortable transition.

The First Few Days

Pain Management: Take an over-the-counter pain reliever such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen to alleviate any initial soreness.

Soft Foods: Stick to a diet of soft foods for the first few days. Good options include soup, yogurt, mashed potatoes, pasta, and smoothies. Avoid crunchy or tough foods until the tenderness subsides.

Dietary Guidelines

Foods to Avoid: To protect your braces and prevent damage, avoid hard, sticky, or chewy foods. This includes hard candies, nuts, popcorn, gum, and hard breads.

Cut Up Food: Cut up hard fruits and vegetables into small, bite-sized pieces.

Oral Hygiene and Care

Brushing: Brush your teeth after every meal to remove food particles trapped in your braces. Use an orthodontic toothbrush to clean around brackets and wires.

Flossing: Flossing is crucial. We recommend using a floss threader or a water flosser to clean between your teeth and under the wires.

Clear Aligners: If you have clear aligners, remember to remove them before eating and drinking anything other than water. Brush your teeth before re-inserting them to prevent trapping food particles.
