A Guide toa Smooth Dental Implant Recovery
The First 24 Hours
Bleeding: It is normal to experience some light bleeding or oozing from the surgical site. Bite down firmly on the gauze pads provided, and change them every 30-45 minutes as needed. You can also place a moistened black tea bag on the area and bite down for 30 minutes, as the tannic acid can help with clotting.
Rest: Rest is vital for proper healing. Avoid strenuous activity for at least 48 hours. When lying down, keep your head elevated with pillows to help minimize swelling.
Diet: Stick to a diet of soft, cool foods and liquids, such as yogurt, soup, smoothies, and ice cream. Do not use a straw, as the suction can dislodge the blood clot and disrupt healing.
Managing Pain and Swelling
Pain: Take any prescribed pain medication as directed by our dentist. For discomfort, you can use over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen, following the package instructions.
Swelling: Swelling is a normal part of the healing process. To minimize it, apply a cold compress or ice pack to the outside of your cheek, 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off, for the first 48 hours.
Oral Hygiene and Care
Brushing: Avoid brushing the surgical site for the first 24 hours. After that, you can gently brush the other teeth but be very careful around the implant area. Rinsing: Do not rinse your mouth for the first 24 hours. After that, you can gently rinse with warm salt water (one teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water) 2-3 times a day to keep the area clean.
