Caring for Your New Night Guard
Daily Care
Rinse Immediately: Right after you remove your night guard in the morning, rinse it thoroughly with cool or lukewarm water.
Brush Gently: Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a non-abrasive toothpaste (or a dedicated night guard cleaner) to gently brush all surfaces of your night guard. This removes plaque and bacteria.
Rinse Again: Rinse it one more time to wash away any remaining cleaner
Weekly Deep Clean
For a more thorough cleaning, you can soak your night guard once a week.
Denture Tablets: Place the night guard in a glass of water and drop in a denture-cleaning tablet. Follow the instructions on the tablet's packaging for the correct soaking time.
Vinegar and Water: Mix one part white vinegar with three parts water. Soak the night guard for 10-15 minutes, then rinse it well before use.
Storage
Keep It Moist: When you are not wearing your night guard, it is important to keep it moist to prevent the material from warping or cracking. A great way to do this is by storing it in a clean cup of water or a denture-soaking solution.
Keep It Safe: When you are not using your night guard, keep it away from pets, which may chew on it.
Important Reminders
DO NOT use hot water to clean your night guard, as this can permanently warp the material.
AVOID storing your night guard in mouthwash or harsh chemicals, which can damage the material.
Check for Wear: Bring your night guard to your check-up appointments at Smile Builder Dental so we can inspect it for wear and proper fit.
